Rohatsu sesshin (in-person and online)
We’re going to celebrate Buddha’s enlightenment on Rohatsu (Japanese for “the eighth day of the twelfth month”), with a weekend sesshin that will end on December 8.
This year, our Rohatsu sesshin will be non-residential, taking place at Black Mountain Zen Centre (and online). We’ll start at 7 pm on Friday evening with zazen, a reading of the Admonitions, and the Refuges.
We’ll return to the zendo on Saturday morning, when we’ll sit from 7 am to 9 am, do morning service, and then eat breakfast together in silence. You can join us at 10 am in person for three more periods of sitting and a dharma talk, followed by noon service and 75 minutes for lunch.
At 2 pm we will do some training in zendo forms and doan practice, followed by an hour of yoga and stretching, and then we’ll sit again until evening service, followed by dinner at 6 pm.
At 7:30 pm we will sit again for three more periods, and we’ll end with the Refuges at 9:15 pm.
On Sunday we will follow the same schedule, starting at 7 am, 10 am, and 2 pm, ending the sesshin at 6 pm after we clean up.
You are warmly invited to participate in the whole sesshin, but it’s also possible to leave and return. As we’ll be preparing food, please let us know if you plan to attend in person.
This offering is free and we welcome donations. Contact info@bmzcbelfast.org to sign up.
